UMass' Varsity Eight Boat Finishes Second At ECAC's

Worcester, Mass. - The UMass women's rowing team took three silvers at the ECAC Championships in Worcester, Mass., on Saturday. The varsity eight, the lightweight eight and the second varsity eight all finished in second place.
The Minutewomen's varsity eight was edged by Bucknell, ending a run of five straight Metro Cup wins by UMass. The Bison finished with a time of 6:30.74 and the Minutewomen crossed the line in 6:34.479. UMass had finished second to Rhode Island in its preliminary heat, but came back to beat the Rams, who took fourth in the grand final. UMass varsity 8+ included: Tara Guinan, Rachael Nealer, Haley Fitzgerald, Airlina Burrill, Sarah Marsan, Hannah Brewster, Ellen Maskrey, Gabrielle Papineau, and coxswain Dana Pulda.
The lightweight eight came in second to Buffalo. The Bulls won with a time of 6:58.569 to UMass' 7:10.804. The lightweight 8+ included: Jessica Romain, Julie Pulda, Brittany Cartin, Amy Rayla, Maria Arcari, Abby Lively, Sarah Potts, Anna Malinkevich, and coxswain Jeanine LeDoux.
The second novice eight also brought home silver. Rhode Island won the race with a 7:22.15. UMass' time was 7:46.324. The second novice 8+ included: Ashley Han, Sarah Madden, Kristen Brown, Kara Bordone, Lindsay Dawson, Stacey Susienka, Kathryn Kern, Claire Champine, and coxswain Erin Flaherty.
UMass' second varsity eight finished second in its heat to Rhode Ialand and turned in a 6:55.105 in the final to come in fourth. The winner in the final was Bucknell with a 6:45.221. Buffalo was second and Rhode Island took third. UMass' second varsity 8+ included: Julie Markus, Kristen Boyce, Courtney Mulvihill, Karalyn Walk, Erin Kelly, Elizabeth Hayashida, Amanda Mawn, Andrea Morand, and coxswain Molly Morgan.
UMass' novice eight was fifth with a time of 8:28.66. Bucknell won that event with a time of 7:34.614. The UMass novice 8+ included: Allison Donzanti, Chelsea Finnegan, Meghan Caffrey, Samantha Smith, Jennifer Rivero, Anna Kenseth, Jenna Oelschlegel, Sarah Albert, and coxswain Melissa D'Amico.
UMass' varsity four finished fifth in its heat and then finished third in teh petite final. UMass' time in teh heat was 8:28.66 and the time in the petite final was 8:26.503. The varsity 4+ included: Meaghan Dempster, Laura Silverman, Anna Welch, Emily Reynolds, and coxswain Ashley Brooks.
UMass will head to Philadelphia May 11-12 for the Dad Vail Regatta.
