Amherst, Mass. - After their clutch performance at the Atlantic 10 Championships, seniors Hannah Brewster (Plymouth, Mass.) and Ellen Maskrey (Pittsburgh, Penn.), along with sophomore Haley Fitzgerald (Burke, Va.) and senior Tara Guinan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) have been named the UMass/ Dinn Bros. Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 21st. The four rowers brought home the A-10 Conference title for UMass for the 12th straight year after winning the quad race. This was the last event of the day at the championship and UMass needed to win this event to take the A-10 again. The rowers managed to take the leadover Rhode Island to win the race by 24 seconds.

Earlier in the day, Brewster, Maskrey, and Guinan placed second in the varsity eight earning them the silver medal, while Fitzgerald also won a silver medal after placing second in the second varsity eight. Though the gold medal won in the quad event was the only gold the Minutewomen brought home at the championship, it was enough to give them 45 points, putting them one point ahead of Rhode Island who only had 44 and take the title, keeping them atop the A-10 for most consecutive championships won in any sport.

In their final seasons as rowers Brewster, Maskrey, and Guinan were all members of the varsity eight team that placed first against Iona and Colgate and second at the Yankee Cup earlier in the season. As a sophomore, Fitzgerald was a member of the second varsity eight team that placed first at the Yankee Cup and first against Iona and Colgate, as well as a fourth place finish in Boston this season.

Brewster, Maskrey, Fitzgerald, and Guinan will be honored this Wednesday, April 25th at the UMass Sports Luncheon which will be held in room 1009 of the Campus Center at noon. This week's speakers will be softball head coach Elaine Sortino, rowing coach Jim Dietz, women's track head coach Julie Lafreniere, and men's track coach Ken O'Brien.
