AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts women's soccer coach Jim Rudy has announced that Therese Smith has signed a national letter of intent and will join the class of 2007 this fall. Smith is a midfielder from Holyoke, Mass., where she attended Holyoke High School. Smith joins Kelsey Anderson, Ashley Hamel and Alyssa Visconti who each signed NLI's during February's early signing period.

"Therese is one of the most creative and technical players to come out of Western Massachusetts in years," said Rudy. "She will add some guile and deception to our attack."

Smith was an All-State performer in 2006 and has been a two-time All-Western Massachusetts performer. She plays for the Western United F.C. and has participated in the UMass Advanced Girl's Soccer Camp.
