Minutemen Place Fourth at Atlantic 10 Championships

Kingston, RI - Senior Erik Hoagland (Belchertown, Mass.) continued his outstanding indoor season after finishing third in the triple jump competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships hosted by the University of Rhode Island. Hoagland placed third with a seasonal best distance of 47 feet, 9 inches which qualifies him for the IC4A. Hoagland also qualified for IC4A at the BU Quad Meet back in January for the 55 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Sophomore Josh Boone (Gardner, Mass.) also qualified for the IC4A in the 1000 meter run. Boone had a seasonal best time of 2:29.64 to take second place. Overall, the Minutemen placed fourth at the Championships.
In other track events, freshman Ian Hackney (Stratford, Conn.) placed twelfth in the 55 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 6.81 seconds. Hackney also placed eleventh in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.01 seconds. In the 55 meter hurdle preliminaries, sophomore Kevin Ianetta (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed eleventh with a time of 8.23 seconds. Junior Nathan Barksdale (Valparaiso, Indiana) placed twelfth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.12 seconds and fourth in the 400 meter dash in 51.10 seconds. Erik Hoagland placed ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.73 seconds.
In the 400 meter dash, freshman Samuel Laorenza (North Andover, Mass.) placed seventeenth with a time of 52.57 seconds. Fifth-year senior James Godinho (Sandwich) took fifth place in the 500 meter run to finish with a time of 1:06.34. In the 1 mile run, both sophomore Peter Fortunato (Tewksbury, Mass.) and junior Ryan Durkin (Andover, Mass.) had seasonal best times. Fortunato placed sixth with a time of 4:16.45, while Durkin was right behind in seventh place with a time of 4:18.71.
In the 800 meter run, junior Kevin Murphy (Bridgewater, Mass.) placed sixth with a time of 1:58.75. Senior Zachary Pryzsiecki (Princeton, N.J.) was right behind to place ninth with a time of 2:00.59. In the 3000 meter run, sophomore Jonathan Pierce (Hanover, Mass.) took sixth place with a time of 8:43.52. Sophomore Kevin Quadrozzi (Pittsfield, Mass.) took thirteenth place with a time of 8:57.99, while junior Joe Czupryna (Chicopee, Mass.) placed sixteenth with a time of 9:00.47. Freshman Andrew McCann (Fayetteville, N.Y.) took eighth place in the 5000 meter run to finish in 15:10.17. Sophomore Jesse Regnier (Hampden, Mass.) was right behind in ninth place with a time of 15:14.86.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Nathan Barksdale, Kevin Ianetta, James Godinho, and senior Manny Harris-Lopes (Roxbury, Mass.) placed sixth with a time of 3:23.01. In the 4x800 meter relay, freshman Ryan Diorio (Bridgewater, N.J.), Zachary Pryzsiecki, Kevin Murphy, and Peter Fortunato placed third with a time of 7:50.14. The team of Ryan Durkin, sophomore David Lopes (Brockton, Mass.), junior James Bentley (Cotuit, Mass.), and junior Matthew Klypka (Oakland, N.J.) placed third in the distance medley with a time of 10:28.21.
In field events, freshman Brian Miller (Foxboro, Mass.) placed fourth in the high jump competition with a seasonal best jump of 6 feet, 5 inches. James Godinho placed sixth in the high jump with a jump of 6 feet, 3.25 inches. In the long jump competition, sophomore Steve Gerome (Waltham, Mass.) placed seventh with a distance of 22 feet, 1 inch.
Overall, the University of Rhode Island took first place for the fifth time in seven years. Next Friday, the Minutemen will travel to Boston to take part in the New England Championships.
