STORRS, CONN. - Both the men's and women's Track and Field Teams traveled back to the University of Connecticut on Saturday for the second time in three weeks. The men competed in the Husky Spring Invite, while the women competed in the UConn Invitational. Overall, the Minutemen placed fourth out of seven teams, while the Minutewomen placed fourth out of eight teams. The top performance of the day came from sophomore Jesse Regnier (Hampden, Mass.) who took first place in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:21.41. Another top performance of the day came from the men's 4x100 meter relay team of senior Manny Harris-Lopes (Roxbury, Mass.), freshman Andrew O'Donnell (Plymouth, Mass.), freshman Brian Miller (Foxboro, Mass.), and junior Nathan Barksdale (Valparaiso, Indiana). The team placed third with a time of 42.21 seconds, which qualifies them for the IC4A's.

Other notable performances include Brian Miller who placed fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.20 seconds. Miller also took eighth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.12 seconds. In the 400 meter dash, Andrew O'Donnell placed ninth with a time of 49.87 seconds, while Nathan Barksdale was right behind in tenth place finishing in 49.92 seconds.

Freshman Ryan DiOrio (Bridgewater, N.J.) placed sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.62 and placed seventh in the 1500 meter run finishing in 3:58.88. Sophomore Peter Fortunato (Tewksbury, Mass.) took seventh place in the 800 meter run finishing in 1:56.91. In the 5000 meter run, junior Ryan Durkin (Andover, Mass.) placed second with a time of 15:30.53. Junior Matt Klypka (Oakland, N.J.) placed fourth with a time of 15:50.05, while junior Mark Kenwood (Cumberland, R.I.) took seventh place finishing in 16:02.12. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, freshman Sonny Gamble placed third with a time of 9:40.12.

Freshman Tyler Cotto (Holliston, Mass.) placed seventh in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.43 seconds, while sophomore Kevin Ianetta (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished eighth in 15.50 seconds. Ianetta also placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles in 56.06 seconds, while senior Jonathan Morse (Seekonk, Mass.) placed tenth in 59.55 seconds.

The relay team of Manny Harris-Lopes, freshman Patrick Phelan (Hingham, Mass.), Nathan Barksdale, and fifth-year senior James Godinho (Sandwich, Mass.) took second place in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:19.31.

In field events, James Godinho took fifth place in the high jump competition with a height of 6 feet, 1 ¼ inches. Brian Miller took sixth place also with a height of 6 feet, 1 ¼ inches. Godinho also placed seventh in the long jump competition with a distance of 22 feet, ¼ inch. Tyler Cotto finished eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet, 4 inches.

As for the women's team, senior Troyanah Evans (Cambridge, Mass.) placed eighth in the 100 meter dash in 12.88 seconds. In the 400 meter dash, junior Britt Canfield (Southwick, Mass.) took eighth place with a time of 1:01.20.

Junior Christina DeRosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) took second place in the 5000 meter run finishing in 17:29.16. Sophomore Eilis Kierans (Newbury, Mass.) took fifth place in 18:44.25, while senior Cuisle Kierans (Newbury, Mass.) placed tenth with a time of 19:24.02. DeRosa also took seventh place in the 1500 meter run in 4:52.43. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, junior Taryn Trapp (Nampa, Idaho) took second place with a time of 11:35.43. Junior Ashley Davidson (Natick, Mass.) finished right behind in 12:12.94 placing fourth.

In the 100 meter hurdles, graduate student Mary Serdakowski (Richmond, R.I.) came in fifth with a time of 14.73 seconds. Serdakowski also placed sixth in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:08.23, while freshman Brittany Bakanowski (Northboro, Mass.) took fourth place in 1:06.94.

As for the relays, the team of Britt Canfield, Taryn Trapp, Mary Serdakowski, and Brittany Bakanowski took fourth place in the 4x400 meter finishing in 4:07.50. In the 4x100 meter relay, Brittany Bakanowski, Troyanah Evans, sophomore Dionise Miranda (Brockton, Mass.), and freshman Rosalind Murphy placed fifth in 49.54 seconds.

In field events, senior Katelyn O'Toole (North Andover, Mass.) placed fourth in the high jump competition with a height of 5 feet, 1 inch, while sophomore Liz Biehl (Northboro, Mass.) took fifth place with a height of 4 feet, 11 inches.

Freshman Molly Chapin (Northfield, Mass.) finished eighth in the pole vault competition with a height of 10 feet, ½ inch. In the long jump competition, Troyanah Evans placed fourth with a jump of 17 feet, 2 ¼ inches. Freshman Lisa Wilson (Holden, Mass.) competed in three difference throwing events. In the shot put throw, Wilson took tenth place with a throw of 31 feet. Wilson also took fourth place in the discus throw with a distance of 126 feet, 3 inches, and sixth place in the hammer throw with a distance of 134 feet, 6 inches.

Next weekend both teams will take part in the third and final home Track and Field Meet of the season. The UMass Eight-Way Meet will start at 11:30 AM at the new Track and Field Complex.
