Paul Dainton Named Hockey East Co-Rookie Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman goalie Paul Dainton was named the Hockey East Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday as announced by the league office. Dainton made 64 saves including a career-high 34 in last Friday's overtime 1-1 tie against No. 9 Boston College. On Saturday he backstopped UMass to a 3-2 win at Chestnut Hill. Following the weekend series against the Eagles, UMass has moved up to No. 10 in both the USA Today/USA Hockey and USCHO.com/CSTV Hockey polls.
Dainton made 64 saves, posted a 1.44 goals against average, and had a .955 save percentage as UMass went 1-0-1 in the home-and-home series with No. 9 Boston College. He made a career-high 34 saves in overtime 1-1 tie on Friday against the Eagles and 30 saves in the 3-2 win at BC on Saturday. He started both games and played a total of 125 minutes. He improves his record to 4-2-4 overall on the season.
For the year, Dainton has started 10 games and has a 2.23 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. He currently ranks third in Hockey East in goals against average and save percentage and fourth in win percentage.
The Minutemen return to action on Tuesday night at Vermont. Opening face-off is set for 7 p.m.
