June 18, 2026 | Hockey
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey announces the addition of 6-4, 196-pound, right catch goaltender Tobias Trejbal for 2026-27. The Most, Czechia native will join defensemen Samu Alalauri, Barrett Dexheimer, Mathieu Taillefer and forwards Egor Barabanov, Gavin Cornforth, Max Curran, Jasper Huhta, Maxim Massé and Melvin Novotny as the 10th newcomer to the UMass squad this fall. Trejbal, ranked No. 3 in the final NHL Central Scouting list for North American goaltenders, is expected to hear his name called in the draft later this month.
"Tobias is a Czech goaltending prospect known for his athleticism and competitiveness," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "He uses his size well to seal the net, while his quick reflexes and lateral movement allow him to make difficult saves in tight and recover effectively on second chances. Tobias is a highly touted prospect for the 2026 NHL Draft and we look forward to watching his name be called."
In his lone season in the United States Hockey League (USHL), Trejbal was named to the league's All-Rookie Team, First All-Star Team and the USHL Goaltender of the year after posting a league-best 2.12 goals-against average over 42 regular season games with the Youngstown Phantoms to go along with a .916 save percentage, a 30-9-3 record and three shutouts. In postseason play, Trejbal had a 1.66 GAA and an .896 save percentage over four games.
Prior to coming to North America, Trejbal played for HC Litvínov in his native Czechia in addition to seeing action at the U18 national team level. Over nine games with Team Czechia, he has registered a 2.31 GAA, a .910 save percentage, a record of 5-4-0 and two shutouts.
