Box Score

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass baseball (11-25, 9-12 A-10) exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth en route to the 9-6 win over St. Bonaventure (22-17, 14-6 A-10) on Sunday afternoon. Travis Munsey was 3-4 on the afternoon with one RBI, while Derrick Durepo was 1-2 with three RBI. Bryan Adamski earned the win, pitching four innings.

The Bonnies wasted no time offensively on Sunday, getting on base with the first two hits of the game, and loading the bases with one out and T.J. Pennino batting. His sacrifice fly to right center brought in Randy Moley for the 1-0 lead before Matt Mardeusz' single to right field allowed Josh Perkins to come home, making it 2-0.

St. Bona added two in the fifth before UMass jumped into the game. Joe Cotone singled prior to Travis Munsey's shot to center field, putting Cotone on third. Derrick Durepo's sacrifice fly to center brought in Cotone, while Ryan Franczek's double to center brought Munsey in for the 4-2 score.

The Minutemen exploded in the sixth, as Adamski, Andy Teutken, Munsey, Cotone and Durepo each scored in the inning to take the 7-4 lead. Durepo's double brought in Munsey and Cotone, while the senior took third on a Bonnie wild pitch before coming home on the second-consecutive wild throw by Matt Agostinelli. Agostinelli took over for SBU starter Eddie Williams, who pitched 5.2 innings.

The Massachusetts defense kicked in in the seventh, closing down the Bonnies with a double play to end the inning. Agostinelli's ground out to Lou Proietti caught Mardeusz at second before Adamski covered first to tag out the runner.

Offense again was the story in the eighth, as the bases were loaded with Prioetti at bat. Munsey and Cotone singled before Durepo was walked to load them up and UMass' shortstop set to go. Prioetti's sacrifice grounder brought in Cotone, while Munsey made it a 9-4 game due to a Bonnie error to close out the scoring in the inning.

SBU made it interesting in the top of the ninth after Joe Rizzo's two-run homer to make it 9-6, but Adamski held on for the win, his second of the season.

The Minutemen improve to 11-25 with the win, 9-12 in the Atlantic 10. They return to action on Tuesday when they host Connecticut at Earl Lordn Field. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
