UMass Rowers Win Yankee Cup

Kingston, R.I. - The UMass women's rowing team won the Yankee Cup again this year, beating three other New England state universities for the championship. UMass finished with 29 points, followed by Connecticut with 19, New Hampshire with 15 and Rhode Island with 14.
The Minutewomen won three of the four scored events, including the varsity eight. The UMass boat had a time of 6:34.6 and beat UConn by almost four seconds, as the Huskies finished in 6:38.0. Rhode Island was third and New Hampshire fourth.
The other UMass wins came in the second varsity eight and the novice eight. The Minutewomen were second in the varsity four to UNH. The Wildcats crossed the line in 7:56.0, while UMass was just a second behind at 7:57. The Minutewomen were charging hard at the end after surviving a collision and nearly made a sweep of the scored events.
In the non-scoring events, UMass won the quad, beating Atlantic-10 rival URI and placed second in the lightweight four, the second novice eight, the lightweight eight, and the novice four.
The UMass crew will race again Sunday afternoon, April 2, at 2:30 in New York City against Columbia, Colgate, and Holy Cross.
