Army Tops UMass, 5-2, In Women's Tennis

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army battled back from a 2-0 defecit to defeat the UMass women's tennis team 5-2, on Saturday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. Michele Spiess won at second-singles for UMass.
Spiess defeated Kristin Flach, 6-3, 6-2. She also teammated with Masha Pozar to win at first doubles, 8-0. The Minuewomen also captured the second doubles match as Susan Johnson and Dorothy Iwanowicz won by the score of 8-6.
The Black Knights (2-5) lost the doubles point and dropped the first singles match before comeback run. With Army leading 3-2, Alquero and Shurtz won their matches, at No. 5 and No. 4 respectively, to secure the victory over the Minutemen.
UMass plays Binghamton on Feb. 18 at Cornell at 2 p.m. The following day the Minutewomen take on the host Big Red in Ithaca.
