AMHERST, Mass. - UMass Women's Soccer (7-3-0) will continue its home stretch this Friday when they face the Dayton Fliers at 3 p.m. at Rudd Field. The Minutewomen look to rebound from the physical, conference loss to LaSalle last Sunday as they continue through the rest of their A-10 slate.
The Minutewomen have been led offensively by Britt Canfield (5-2-12),who was named the UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week after her gamewinner over George Washington. Vanessa Patry and Nadia Villarroel have also supplied consistent offense, while Kristin Walker has been solid in net. She ranks second in the A-10 in shutouts (3), third in goals-against average (0.98) and fourth in save percentage (.800).
UD is coming off a week-long break from action and their last win, a 4-1 tilt over Oakland. The game started out slow for both teams but Dayton went into the half up 1-0 and dominated the match in the second. The Flyers were lead by junior forward Dara Elk, who also leads the team in goals (2) and points (5). Tied with Elk in tallies on the season are freshmen Mandi Back and Caitlin Proffitt. The Fliers (3-3-3) are winners of three of their last four games as they wrapped up non-conference play.
Massachusetts concludes its four game homestand on Sunday against Xavier (5-6-0), with the match beginning at Noon. The Musketeers will face Rhode Island on the road this Friday before coming to Amherst, and are coming off a 3-0 home win over Oakland. The shutout was freshman goalkeeper Kelly Ferrell's second of the season as Xavier remains undefeated at home.
