Men's Soccer Falls 5-0 At La Salle

PHILADELPHIA - Jeremy Ortiz had a goal and set up two more as La Salle defeated the UMass men's soccer team 5-0 at McCarthy Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Explorers, who entered the weekend second in the league for total points, scored a season-high five goals on a UMass defense which had allowed just six all season. The Minutemen (6-4-2, 0-2-0 A-10) will head to Dayton next Friday (Oct. 6) and to Xavier on Sunday (Oct. 8).
The first half was a tightly contested game with the Explorers (5-5-1, 1-1-0 A-10) notching their first goal of the game at the 12:03 mark. La Salle made that score stand throught the first 45 minutes with a 1-0 halftime lead.
After the intermission, Ortiz got the Explorers back on the scoreboard when he found Dan Heavey in the 53rd minute. La Salle added three more goings in the 71st minute, the 73rd minute, and the 78th minute.
For the game, La Salle held a 12-to-9 shots advantage - including an 8-to-2 edge in the second half.
The Minutemen will continue their Atlantic 10 schedule this upcoming weekend. UMass takes on Dayton on Friday at 7 p.m. and Xavier on Sunday at 1 p.m.
