Amherst, Mass. - UMass women's rowing coach Jim Dietz announced that Sarah Marsan and Haley Fitzgerald will be joining his team for the 2005-2006 season. Marsan will be transfering from Mercyhurst College and Fitzgerald has signed a national letter of intent and will be an incoming freshman.

Marsan, from Cincinnati, Ohio, rowed in the varsity eight at Mercyhurst and also rowed and sculled for Clermont Crew while in high school.

"I think Sarah is going to benefit our program greatly," said Dietz. "She will be an impact rower for us and has a chance to earn a spot in our varsity eight."

Fitzgerald, from Burke, Va., rowed the stroke seat for the varsity eight the last two years at Lake Braddock Secondary School.

"Her erg scores tell me that Haley can be a varsity rower for us right now," said Dietz.

Dietz also announced that Aisling Brien from Newark, Cal., Rachel Ebner from Sharon, Mass., and Emma Einhorn, from Newak, N.J., will be joining the team as recruited walk-ons.
