NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - While the UMass swimmers were in Providence, R.I., the divers were making a splash at the Rutgers Super Splash Diving Invitational. The invitational made use of the six dive format on the one-meter board and the 11 dive format on the three-meter board.
On the men's side Reuben Rappe (Farmington, Minn.) led the attack. Rappe took first place in the three-meter event with a score of 501.70. Rappe's score was more than 12 points better than second place. Kirk Scimone (Brockton, Mass.) placed thirteenth in the three-meter with a score of 338.50. In the one-meter event, Rappe placed fifth (272.80) and Scimone placed thirteenth (218.85).
For the women, Karen Upperco (Titusville, N.J.) placed third in the three-meter event with her score of 465.55. Mary Jenkins (Acton, Mass.) placed fifth (397.05) and Melissa Pond (Wayland, Mass.) placed ninth (358.65). In the one-meter event, Upperco placed fifth (227.75). Pond placed ninth (188.25) and Jenkins placed seventeenth (155.50).
The men and women return action on January 7, 2006, when they travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the Sacred Heart Invitational.
