AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass varsity eight climbed one spot in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association poll this week to 17th. The Minutewomen moved up on the strength of their win at Syracuse last weekend. The entire crew finishes the regular season in Worcester, Mass., on Sunday at the ECAC Championships.

The top five teams in the current CRCA poll are California, Princeton, Michigan, Brown, and Ohio State. The UMass varsity eight's lone loss came against fourth ranked Brown by less than five seconds.

The varsity eight consists of rowers Catherine Gariepy, Faith Harkins, Stephanie Hopf, Katie O'Brien, Lauren Cromwell, Lea Jakobsen, Lizzy Boyle, and Hayley McGrath, along with coxswain Carrie Champigny. The last regular season race is the ECAC Championship. The Minutewomen varsity eight will be hoping for an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Cal., beginning on May 28.
