AMHERST, Mass. - Stefanie Suehnholz scored 1:47 into overtime as Providence College came back to defeat the University of Massachusetts, 2-1, in overtime this afternoon in non-conference field hockey action. The loss, which was the fourth in a row for Massachusetts, drops it to 2-6 on the season. With the win, Providence improves to 4-2.

Massachusetts got on the board first just 9:13 into the game. Sophomore Robin Dziedzic (Palmer, Mass.) banged home a rebound after a penalty corner for her first goal in a UMass uniform. The Minutewomen controlled the play for much of the first half. They out-shot PC, 12-6, and had six penalty corners but were unable to score another goal.

Mid-way through the first half, Providence forward Melissa McGow walked in alone, but her shot from point-blank range was stoped by UMass junior goalkeeper Christine Tocco (Reading, Mass.). Tocco dove across the cage to deny McGow. McGow got her revenge as the took a feed from Melissa Kroslak and netted the game-tying score with just over five minutes remaining in regulation.

In overtime, Suehnholz stuffed a rebound past Tocco for her fifth goal of the season and completed Providence's comeback. Her initial shot was stopped by a sprawling Tocco, but she was able to get the rebound and slip it past the UMass goalkeeper.

Massachusetts out-shot Providence, 17-15, and held the edge in penalty corners, 9-8, but lost for the fourth straight game. Tocco finished the game with eight saves while PC goalkeeper Meaghan Moran made six.

Massachusetts returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, with a 4:00 p.m. game at No. 12 Northeastern.
