Swim Teams Split Against The Rams

BRONX, N.Y. -- The Massachusetts men's and women's swimming and diving teams recorded mixed results on Saturday at Fordham, as the men's team came away with a 179-112 victory and the Minutewomen fell to the Rams, 189-110.

The men's team was led by seniors Justin Houck (Wyomissing, Pa.) and Ryan Zaucha (Auburn, Calif.), who both tallied two victories against the Rams. Houck finished first in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:59.18) and 200-yard backstroke (1:56.31), while Zaucha tallied first place finishes in both the 100-yard backstroke (53.29) and the100-yard butterfly (53.43). Zaucha was also a member of the first place 200-yard medley relay team, joining sophomores Matt Woodward (Waterboro, Maine), Dylan Smith (Timmonium, Md.) and Ryan Matthews (Rumson, N.J.) to finish at 1:37.39.

Also recording victories for the Minutemen were sophomore Brandon Doane (Danvers, Mass.),junior Peter Tawczynski (Holden, Mass.), junior Conner Townsend (Memphis, Tenn.) and Smith. Smith placed first in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:45.93, while Tawczynski won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.24) and Townsend won the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.35). Doane finished first in the 1-meter dive with 245.85 points and finished second in the 3-meter dive with 197.02 points.

The Minutewomen were led by senior Kate Allery (South Hadley, Mass.) and junior Christen Dexter (Centerville, Mass.). Allery finished first in the 1-meter dive with 286.42 points and won the 3-meter dive with 219.75 points. Dexter captured victories in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.23) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.05).

Both the men's and women's swim teams will next compete on Feb. 8 when they host Boston College at 1:00 p.m. at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool.
