AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts hockey player Thomas P?ck (Klagenfurt, Austria) has been named Hockey East's Player of the Week after gaining Most Valuable Player honors at the Sheraton / Banknorth Classic at Vermont. It is the second weekly honor for P?ck this season. He was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 10.
P?ck, a senior forward-turned-defenseman, scored seven points (2 g, 5 a) in the two games this weekend. He had a hand in seven of UMass' eight goals in the two-game set, including all three in a 3-3 tie with No. 14-ranked Dartmouth. He dished out a career-best three assists against the Big Green on Saturday night, then followed that performance with a two-goal, two-assist effort in a 5-5 tie with Vermont. P?ck is currently third in the country, and leads all Hockey East players, in scoring with 27 points, and leads the next closest defenseman by 10 points. Since the transition to defenseman at the start of last year, P?ck has scored 64 points (29 g, 35 a) in only 55 games. P?ck, a Hobey Baker Award favorite, moved into 10th place on the school's all-time scoring list with 88 career points.
P?ck and his teammates will battle UMass Lowell for the Alumni Cup this weekend. The Minutemen, who lead the season series 1-0, will travel to Lowell on Saturday, Jan. 3, for a 2:00 p.m. face-off against the River Hawks at Tsongas Arena. The two teams will then battle at the Mullins Center on Sunday, Jan. 4, at 3:00 p.m.
