Women's Tennis Downs Stony Brook, 4-3

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring as they downed Stony Brook, 4-3, this afternoon on the campus of Colgate University.
UMass won the doubles point as the No. 1 and 2 teams of sophomore Jafra Depontes (Kaliua-Kona, Hawaii) and freshman Stephanie Price (Columbia, Mo.) as well as sophomore Susan Hyams (Cincinnati, Ohio) and senior Helena Horak (Westlake Village, Calif.) were victorious by scores of 8-1 and 8-2, respectively.
In singles action, Depontes, Price and Hyams were each victorious securing the victory. Depontes defeated Marta Barrett, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 1, while Price topped Patricia Gomez, 6-2, 6-1 at second singles. At No. 4, Hyams topped Georgia Bushell, 6-3, 6-0.
The Minutewomen will play Colgate tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
