AMHERST, Mass. - Greg Mauldin (Holliston, Mass.) was named KOHO? Hockey East Player of the Week after leading the Minutemen to a 3-0-0 mark last week. The Minutemen are 8-5-0 overall heading into this weekend's series with No. 13-ranked Boston University.
The sophomore forward netted his first career hat trick in last Saturday's 7-2 win over Dartmouth. It was the first hat trick for a UMass player since Nov. 22, 1996. He then tallied a goal and two assists in Sunday's 5-3 win over Princeton. Mauldin ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 12 points, leads the team in goals with eight and is third with a +10 plus/minus ratio. It is the first weekly Hockey East honor that Mauldin has received and fifth Minuteman to win a weekly award this year.
Also honored by the Hockey East Conference on the Hockey East Honor Roll were freshmen Matt Anderson (West Islip, N.Y.) and Stephen Werner (Chevy Chase, Md.). The duo combined for 15 points (5 g, 10 a) and were a combined +22 over the three-game sweep. It is the second time that Anderson and Werner have been named to the Hockey East Honor Roll. Werner was also a Hockey East Rookie of the Month runner-up for November. Werner totaled 10 points (5 g, 5 a) in nine games with a +12 rating over the month of November, a month that the Minutemen went 6-3-0. That mark is the best in school history for the month of November.
