UConn Tops UMass In Women's Soccer Action

AMHERST, Mass. - No. 9 University of Connecticut (2-1) had five different players score in its 5-0 victory over No. 19 University of Massachusetts (1-1) this afternoon at Totman Field.
The Huskies took a 2-0 lead into halftime off goals my Megan Almanzo and Kaycee McElree. Jessica Gjertsen, Kristen Graczyk and Lacey Toups added scores for UConn in the second stanza. Four separate Minutewomen recorded a shot apiece for UMass which was outshot 22-4 by UConn.
UMass goalkeeper Julie Podhrasky (Dallas, Texas) had six saves while UConn keepers Erin Rice and Maria Yatrakis combined for four.
UMass is off until it travels to Athens, Ga. to take on the University of Georgia Bulldogs on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m. The Minutewomen then travel to Auburn, Ala. to play the Auburn University Tigers on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 12:30 p.m. UMass returns home for an Atlantic 10 Conference game on Sunday, Sept. 23, against the University of Rhode Island Rams at 1:00 p.m.
