Two Women's Soccer Players Earn Weekly Honors

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts women's soccer player Stephanie Santos (Ludlow, Mass.) was selected as WHMP/UMass Athlete of the week as announced today at the UMass weekly sports luncheon. In addition, Martha Conover (Liverpool, N.Y.) was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week.
Santos, a freshman forward, scored the first hat trick of her UMass career this past Sunday during a 6-2 victory over Binghamton. Scoring twice in the game's first 34 minutes, the preseason Atlantic 10 all-Rookie team selection leads the Minutewomen with four goals and eight points.
Conover handed out three assists in the Binghamton win, giving the pre-season all-Atlantic 10 selection the team lead in that category. This is the first time that the junior midfielder has been selected to the Soccer America squad.
UMass plays host to conference rival University of Rhode Island (2-1/0-0 Atlantic 10) on Sunday, Sept. 23. Game time is set for 1:00pm at Totman Field.
