Baseball Falls to Oral Roberts 16-1

TULSA, Okla. -- Outfielder Chad Stewart went three for six with a double, a home run and two runs batted in, to lead Oral Roberts to a 16-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts baseball team. The Golden Eagles totaled 14 hits in the game, with three doubles, a triple and two homers. The Minutemen fall to 0-3 on the season with the loss, while Oral Roberts improves to 8-2.
The Golden Eagles led 4-0 after three innings of play, before UMass scored its lone run in the top of the fourth inning. Freshman second baseman Adam Stojanowski (West Roxbury, Mass.) led off the inning by walking and stealing second base, then came in to score on an RBI single by senior outfielder Gavin Clark (Springfield, Mass.).
Oral Roberts increased its lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, then scored 10 runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Catcher Brian Hickman had a pair of two-run singles during the inning, while outfielder Wilton Reynolds added a three-run homer. The Golden Eagles added one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning to conclude the scoring.
Lefthanded pitcher Trevor Leu earned the victory for Oral Roberts, allowing only one run and one hit in six innings of work, while striking out 12. Righthander Brian Hourigan (Beacon Hills, Conn.) took the loss for the Minutemen, surrendering five runs on six hits in four innings of work.
The Minutemen will return to action on Saturday, March 17, when they play at Liberty at 2:00 p.m.
