Women's Soccer Players Earn Atlantic 10 Honors

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts senior soccer player Kathleen Machamer (Highland Ranch, Colo.) earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors, and freshman Stephanie Santos (Ludlow, Mass.) received Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors it was announced today by the conference office.

Machamer tallied three assists in the 5-0 victory over St. Bonaventure on Friday, Oct. 12, and scored three goals in the 7-0 victory over Duquesne on Sunday, Oct. 14. Machamer is currently second on the team in scoring with 14 points on four goals and six assists. Machamer graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 1997. She led Cherry Creek to three straight Centennial League championships and was a two-time first team All-Colorado selection. She was a member of the Cherry Creek Lightning and Lakewood Fury club soccer teams, and won a combined five Colorado State Cup Championships.

Santos had a goal and an assist in the 5-0 victory over St. Bonaventure on Friday, Oct. 12. On Sunday, Oct. 14, she scored one goal in the 7-0 victory over Duquesne. Santos has a team high 16 points this season on six goals and four assists. Santos is a 2001 graduate of Ludlow High School where she helped lead the Lions to a Massachusetts state championship in 2000. Santos earned all-New England and all-state honors as a junior and senior.

The Minutewomen return to action on Friday, Oct. 19, when they travel to Philadelphia to face A-10 rival St. Joseph's in a 7:00 p.m. game.
