UMass Hockey Falls To Northeastern, 4-2

BOSTON -- The University of Massachusetts fell to Northeastern tonight, 4-2, in Hockey East action at Matthews Arena. Senior Kris Wallis assisted on both Minutemen goals.
Northeastern got off to a quick start as John Peterman scored an unassisted goal 2:57 into the game. Nine minutes later, the Huskies' Ryan Dudgeon scored to put them up, 2-0. The Minutemen cut the lead in half just before intermission when junior Martin Miljko (Etobicoke, Ontario) netted his 11th goal of the season at the 17:28 mark. Senior Kris Wallis (Agassiz, British Columbia) recorded the first of his two assists on the evening.
The only goal of the second period came from Northeastern's Willie Levesque 1:54 into the period. It was the first of his two points on the evening. Jim Fahey recorded his 11th assist on the goal.
In the third period, Northeastern scored quickly to take a 4-1 lead on a Chris Lynch goal 2:08 into the period. Freshman Thomas P?ck (Klagenfurt, Austria) netted his sixth goal of the season 12 minutes later, but that was the end of the scoring. Wallis and Sophomore Brad Nizwantowski (Peabody, Mass.) assisted on the power play goal.
Senior goaltender Markus Helanen (Vantaa, Finland) made 35 saves for the Minutemen. The Huskies' Mike Gilhooly also made 35 saves. UMass was outshot 39-37. There were a total 30 penalties for 92 minutes over the course of the game.
With the loss, the Minutemen fall to 5-14-2 overall and 4-7-0 in Hockey East, while Northeastern improves to 8-8-3 overall and 3-5-3 in Hockey East.
The two teams turn around and face each other tomorrow night (Sat.) at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
