Lilly Nets Three In 9-0 UMass Win

AGAWAM, Mass.--Freshman forward Erin Lilly (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) scored three goals and senior forward Kara Ciocca (Wilbraham, Mass.) added two to pace UMass (2-0) to a 9-0 victory over Albany (0-2) Saturday night at Agawam High School.
Junior forward Brooke Bartlett (Clifton Park, N.Y) started the scoring for UMass, scoring her second goal of the season at 6:17 off a passes by Kristin Mena (North Grafton, Mass.) and junior midfielder Kat Machamer (Highland Ranch, Colo.). Machamer scored three minutes later off a cross pass from Bartlett while junior midfielder Martha Conover (Liverpool, N.Y.) scored from junior midfielder Anna Morozuk?s (Croton Falls, N.Y.) and Amy Mink (Westchester, Ohio) at 25:55 to put the Minutewomen up 3-0. Lilly wrapped up the first half scoring with her first goal of the game, from Conover, at 40:09.
Ciocca scored her first goal of the game 13 seconds into the second half and followed that up seven seconds later with her second score of the night. Junior midfielder Katelyn Jones (Round Lake, N.Y.) and sophomore defender Holly Wildenhaus (Centerville, Ohio) got credit on Ciocca?s second goal.
Lilly, with her final two goals, and senior forward Kara Green (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) finished up the scoring for UMass before the game was called at 79:59 due to lightening in the area.
UMass junior goalkeeper Julie Podhrasky (Dallas, Texas) was untested in the first half while freshman Kelly Nigh (Seattle, Wash.) had to make just one save in the second half as Albany had only two shots in the game. The Great Danes goalkeepers, Michelle Talviste and Beth Spinelli, combined for nine saves in the game.
The Minutewomen travel to Clifton Park, N.Y. Monday, September 4, to take on Syracuse at 1:00 p.m.
