STORRS, Conn. - UConn forward Salla Ranta scored the only goal of the night 4:57 into the game to give the No. 20 Huskies (2-2-1) a 1-0 win over visiting UMass (3-3) Wednesday night in front of 1,233 fans at Morrone Stadium.
Ranta scored off a header on UConn's first corner kick of the game. Lauren Molinaro and Jen Carlson assisted on the goal. Brooke Bartlett (Clifton Park, N.Y.) led the Minutewomen's offensive attack with two shots on net.
UMass goalkeeper Julie Podhrasky (Dallas, Texas) recorded a career-high nine saves for the Minutewomen who were outshot 14-4 by the Huskies.
UMass continues on its six-game road trip with a game at Rhode Island Sunday, Sept. 17, at 1:00 p.m.
