PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Freshman lefthanded pitcher Patrick Reedy (New Bedford, Mass.) threw a five-hit complete game, to lead the University of Massachusetts baseball team to a 4-1 victory over Boston College in the semifinals of the Beanpot Baseball Classic at McCoy Stadium. Reedy threw the first complete game of his collegiate career, allowing only one run and two walks while striking out two. UMass improves to 17-15-1 on the season with the victory, and improves its all-time mark in the Beanpot to 7-1. Boston College falls to 27-14 on the year with the loss.

The Minutemen opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, then added another run in the bottom of the second. Junior outfielder Nick Gorneault (Springfield, Mass.) singled with two outs in the first, then stole second before sophomore catcher Chris Morgan (Cranston, R.I.) drew a walk. Senior first baseman Kevin O'Connell (Hartland, Vt.) and sophomore third baseman Aaron Senez (Springfield, Mass.) then followed with back-to-back RBI singles, bringing home Gorneault and Morgan. In the second, senior second baseman Shaun Skeffington (Fall River, Mass.) walked and stole second, then came in to score when sophomore outfielder Mike Kulak (Bristol, Conn.) reached on an error.

UMass added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, when Gorneault walked, moved to third on a single by Morgan, then came in to score on an RBI single by O'Connell. Boston College scored its lone run in the top of the ninth inning, on a one-out solo home run by senior first baseman Stephen Langone.

Senez led the Minutemen at the plate by going three for four, while O'Connell was two for three with a pair of runs batted in. Langone went two for four to lead the Eagles. Boston College senior righthander Jaime Quiros suffered the first loss of his collegiate career, allowing four runs on four hits in four innings of work.

The Minutemen will return to action tomorrow, April 25, when they face Northeastern in the Beanpot championship game at Fenway Park at 2:00 p.m. The Huskies defeated Harvard 7-5 in the first semifinal game of the day.
