Brookline, Mass. - Northeastern junior Matt Keating hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning, leading the Huskies to an 8-6 win over UMass at Friedman Diamond on Thursday afternoon. UMass drops to 12-12 overall, while the Huskies even their record at 10-10.

UMass jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the game's first at-bat. Senior Shaun Skeffington (Fall River, Mass.) and sophomore Mike Kulak (Bristol, Conn.) both scored on sacrifice fly balls by Chris Morgan (Cranston, R.I.) and Kevin O'Connell (Hartland, Vt.).

After Northeastern tied the game at two apiece, freshman Jeff Altieri (Whitinsville, Mass.) led off the fourth inning with the first home run of his UMass career, putting the Minutemen ahead by one.

UMass built a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth with an Aaron Senez (Springfield, Mass.) homer to right-center field.

With UMass leading 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth, Northeastern loaded the bases with the help of a Senez error. With two outs, Keating blasted his fourth homer of the season over the right field wall, giving the Huskies an 8-6 lead.

UMass sophomore Jesse Santos (Chelmsford, Mass.) took the loss in relief while giving up four runs, all unearned, in three and a third innings. Ken Henry picked up the win, improving to 2-2 on the year.

UMass will be back in action this weekend in Philadelphia for a three-game set with the Temple Owls. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon.
