AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore Connell Clark (Springfield, Mass.) hit his first career home run for the Minutemen, leading UMass to a 6-1 win over the Crusaders of Holy Cross on Wednesday. The Minutemen won their sixth straight game, improving to 6-6 on the year. The Crusaders drop to 4-7 on the season with the loss.

With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, junior Nick Gorneault (Springfield, Mass.) was hit in the leg by a Ryan Kenny pitch. Sophomore catcher Chris Morgan (Cranston, R.I.) followed with a double to the right-center gap, scoring Gorneault from first. After senior Kevin O'Connell (Hartland, Vt.) reached on an error, shortstop Aaron Senez (Springfield, Mass.) doubled down the left field line, scoring both Morgan and O'Connell.

UMass added three more runs in the bottom of the third. After a Senez walk, Clark blasted an opposite-field shot over the left-center field fence for his first home run of the year. Two batters later, freshman Matt Boulanger (Westfield, Mass.) doubled and later scored on a Shaun Skeffington (Fall River, Mass.) single to left field.

The Crusaders got on the board in the top of the sixth. Dan Powers doubled to left field off UMass starter Craig Szado (Monson, Mass.) and later scored on a single by second baseman Peter Summa.

Szado held the Crusaders in check for six innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five in picking up his first win of the season. Before the two hits in the sixth, Szado had retired 15 straight batters. Ryan Kenny took the loss for the Crusaders, dropping to 1-1 on the year.

***NOTE TO THE MEDIA: The Minutemen will be in action again on Saturday in New Haven, Conn., facing Yale at Noon at Yale Field. The game was originally listed as a home game for the Minutemen.
