Men Take Second At Vermont Meet

THE WEEK AHEAD: UMass is off this week and will return to action in the Meet of Champions on Oct. 2 in Bronx, N.Y.

A LOOK BACK: The UMass men?s cross country team finished second with 66 points at the Vermont Cross Country Meet in Burlington, Vt. Boston University won the event with 31 points, claiming the top two individual times. Albany came in third, followed by Central Connecticut and Vermont in fourth and fifth respectively. A trio of sophomores paced the Minutemen, all finishing in the top 15 led by Ryan Corbett (Highland, N.Y.) who finished fifth overall with a time of 25:32. Kevin Curtin (Chelmsford, Mass.) was the second UMass runner to cross the finish line in 12th overall in 26:20. UMass? third fastest runner, David Prasse (Walpole, Mass.) finished 15th in 26:28. Senior Matthew Ely (Andover, Mass.) and junior Thomas Stuart (Canandaiqua, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Minutemen, placing 16th and 18th respectively.

HEAD COACH KEN O?BRIEN: This is Ken O?Brien?s 33rd season as head coach of the UMass men?s cross country/track & field teams. During his tenure, UMass has won 16 conference championships, four New England titles and two IC4A titles. Last season, O?Brien was named NCAA District I Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. The 1963 UMass graduate has produced seven all-Americans during his 33-year career.
