Massachusetts women’s soccer head coach Jason Dowiak announced on June 21, 2021 that Lauren Aldred has joined the program as an assistant coach. Aldred has spent the previous five years as the Girls Regional Director of Coaching for the New England Futbol Club.
“When we evaluated what our program needs to elevate us to the next level, characteristics like experience, maturity, and passion for developing players were at the forefront,” Dowiak said. “Lauren possesses each of those qualities and so much more. She is a proven competitor and, as the director of the New England Futbol Club, has developed it into one of New England’s most consistent winners over the last four years.”
While with the New England Futbol Club, Aldred directed the west region club wide program, overseeing more than 15 teams aged six to 18. There, she was responsible for regional annual budgeting, marketing, recruitment, fundraising, leadership and mentoring. In addition, she was also the head coach of multiple squads, and also played a significant role in player development where she identified talent within the club and provided pathways into the collegiate environment, resulting in the placement of more than 25 players into NCAA collegiate programs.
Aldred’s elite level programs competed at the highest showcase tournaments and consistently qualified and completed at nationals, including leading the 2003 Elite team to the national championship in 2019-20. Aldred also has eight years of experience with the Oakwood Soccer Club in Connecticut.
“She knows how to develop players in all four pillars of the game: technically, tactically, physically, and psychologically, and she does a fantastic job of creating a team culture that is family oriented and can be seen in how her players care about each other. I am so excited to welcome Lauren into our program, and know she will help us build an even stronger culture of winning!”
Aldred played collegiate soccer at the University of Hartford, where she was named to the America East All-Conference First Team, NSCAA All-Region First Team and NEWISA All-New England Second Team as a senior. She graduated from Hartford in 2009 before earning a Master of Science in Physical Education from Central Connecticut State in 2015.
“I am grateful and excited for this opportunity to become part of the Flagship family here at UMass,” Aldred said. “I cannot wait to engage with the staff, players and alumni who belong to this successful University and women's soccer program. Soccer is a part of life for me, and I will work tirelessly to help grow our players on and off the field in any way I can. I very much look forward to the journey ahead."
