Michael Mordocco
Veteran soccer coach Michael Mordocco joined the UMass staff in April 2015 as an assistant coach under Fran O'Leary and promoted to associate head coach the following Spring.

"I am delighted to have Michael as part of our staff at the University of Massachusetts," O'Leary said. "The combination of having played on a National Championship team, along with the experience gained working at NCAA Division I programs makes him ideally suited to mentor our players and aid in their overall development."

Mordocco came to UMass with more than a decade of NCAA coaching experience spending the previous four seasons at nationally ranked UConn. While working at his alma mater, he helped the Huskies capture their 13th regular season conference title and their first-ever American Athletic Conference championship in 2014. Connecticut was tabbed the AAC's Coaching Staff of the Year in his final season before joining the Minutemen.

The Huskies gained a berth in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals for three-consecutive season from 2011-2013 in Mordocco's first three years back in Storrs. He was an integral part of the UConn program that boasted a 58-16-15 overall record during his time on the sidelines at Connecticut.

Throughout his coaching tenure in Storrs, the Huskies compiled a total of 12 MLS draft picks including back-to-back No. 1 overall picks in 2014 and 2015 (Andre Blake and Cyle Larin). Mordocco has helped develop players such as Andre Blake, who became the first goalkeeper to ever be selected No. 1 overall in the MLS SuperDraft in January of 2014.

Prior to joining the UConn staff in 2011, Mordocco was the top assistant coach at Stony Brook University where he was involved in several facets of the program, including recruiting, scouting, budget, travel and game day operations and promotions. During his tenure at Stony Brook, he helped the Sea Wolves to the 2009 America East Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Before joining Cesar Markovic at Stony Brook, Mordocco started his coaching career at Oneonta State College under Iain Byrne from 2004-2007 making it to the conference finals in 2005.

Mordocco earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Connecticut in 2002. He was a four-year player at UConn and helped lead the Huskies to four Big East Regular Season Titles (1998-2002), three times NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal (1999,2000,2002), College Cup Final Four (1999) and NCAA National Championship in 2000.

Mordocco has since been involved in the community as the Director of Coaching for Northeast United Soccer Club located in Mansfield, Conn., since 2011 and oversees a premier program of 20 plus teams and 400 players. He also has experience as Technical Director of the Stony Brook Soccer Club Youth Academy and served as the head coach of both the U11 and U16-U18 teams at the SBSC between 2007-10.

He and his wife, Lauren, welcomed their first child Elliana Capri in the spring of 2017.
