After spending the past two seasons as a forward with the Minutemen, Michael Iovanna will serve as a student assistant coach on the Massachusetts hockey staff in 2017-18.
Iovanna played in six career games combined in 2015-16 and 2016-17 for the Maroon and White. Prior to coming to UMass he played parts of two season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) with the Bonnyville Pontiacs (2013-14, 2014-15) and was also a member of the the Boston Junior Bruins (USPHL) and in the BCHL with the Vernon Vipers and Prince George Spruce Kings in 2013-14.
A native of Middleton, Mass., Iovanna played high school hockey at Malden Catholic (2010-13), serving as team captain in 2012-13 and was a three-time All-Catholic Conference selection (2011-13), helping Malden Catholic claim three Super 8 titles.
He graduated from Malden Catholic in 2013 and is majoring in psychology.
