Jacob Pritchard, a key piece of the first Massachusetts hockey squad to reach the national title game, has returned to UMass as a volunteer assistant coach for 2022-23.
In his final season of collegiate eligibility after graduate transferring from St. Lawrence, Pritchard enjoyed a career year in his one year with the Minutemen, finishing second for the team and in Hockey East with 47 points in 41 games on 16 goals and 31 assists and was +8. Nationally the Macomb, Michigan native tied for 13th in points per-game, 1.15, tied for 14th in assists per-game (0.76) and led the nation with 26 power-play points, which also tied a UMass single-season record.
He finished fourth in Hockey East scoring in 2018-19 with 28 points, tied for third in goals (11), tied for seventh in assists (17) and tied for first in power-play goals (6). The New England All-Star and Second-Team Hockey East All-Star also ranks fourth all-time in the program's record book for single-season assists (31).
Pritchard played a total of 137 games combined between UMass and St. Lawrence and amassed 110 career points on 43 goals and 67 assists.
Upon the completion of the 2018-19 season, Pritchard signed a free agent entry-level contract with the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes. He played three full seasons of professional hockey, seeing time with the Charlotte Checkers, Springfield Thunderbirds and Rochester Americans in the AHL and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, Wheeling Nailers and Reading Royals of the ECHL. In 2021-22 with Reading, Pritchard amassed 52 points in 58 regular season games on 16 goals and 36 assists.
