Brinson joined the Massachusetts athletics department in a full time role in February of 2023 as a Senior Defensive Analyst for the football program.
Brinson has 27 years of collegiate coaching experience, having coached 15 players who have gone on to NFL and/or CFL careers. He helped develop 18 All-Conference players, a pair of Two-Time Defensive Players of the Year, two FCS All-Americans, two Buck Buchanan Award Finalists, three All Conference Academic Players and one Academic All-American.
Prior to UMass, Brinson served as an Assistant Head Coach for the Football team at Wagner College where he predominantly coached the linebackers. He also served as the recruiting coordinator. During his time at Wagner, Brinson produced a two-time NEC Defensive Player of the Year, a Buck Buchanan Nominee and a FCS All-American. He coached Colts linebacker Titus Leo who played linebacker under Brinson in 2018 and then as a hybrid rush the two years before he was drafted.
Prior to Wagner College, Brinson served as an Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Morehead State University. During his time at Morehead State University, he produced the leading player in the PFL for sacks, TFLS and forced fumbles. His team ranked in the Top 25 for fumble recoveries, ranked 28th in FCS for passing yardage allowed and produced four All-Conference PFL Players and two All-Academic PFL selections in 2019.
Prior to Morehead State University, Brinson served as an Assistant Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator, Recruiting Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator during his first stint at Wagner College. Brinson Produced 14 NFL/CFL players, 15 All-Conference honorees, two FCS All-Americans, a pair of two-time NEC and ECAC Defensive Players of the Year, two Buck Buchanan finalists, two Team MVPs and Defensive MVPs, one East-West Shrine Bowl recipient and one Hula Bowl recipient.
Prior to Wagner University, Brinson served as an Assistant Football Coach at Columbia University. During his time at Columbia University he produced a Second team All-Ivy, a First team All-Ivy, a Walter Camp All-American, an ECAC FCS All Star, an Associated Press Second Team selection, a Collegeperformance.com Tight End of the Year, the leader in FCS Stats (receptions, yards, TD’s) for all tight ends and led the Ivy League in TD catches.
Prior to Columbia University, Brinson served as an Assistant Football Coach at the University of Rhode Island. Before URI, he was an Assistant Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, and Special Teams Coordinator for Bryant University. Prior to Bryant University, Brinson served as an Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Kean University where he worked mainly with the Linebackers and Wide Receivers..
Prior to Kean University, Brinson served as a Student Assistant Coach/GA for the University of Rhode Island Football Team, working primarily with the Running Backs.
Brinson earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Fisheries/Marine Science from the University of Rhode Island while also earning a Masters of Arts in Education from Saint Peters College.
