Played in six games and made two starts at quarterback ... Was 25-of-48 for 325 yards passing with three touchdowns ... Made his first appearance during the season-opener against Boston College (8/30) but did not record statistics ... Also went into the game at Kent State (10/11) ... Took snaps during the fourth quarter of UMass' 36-14 victory over Eastern Michigan (10/18) ... Replaced an injured Blake Frohnapfel during the win over Ball State (11/12) ... Started in place of the sidelined Blake Frohnapfel at Akron (11/18) and was 12-of-20 for 157 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions ... Was an All-Erickson League All-Star pick ... Graduated from Pine-Richland High School in Pennsylvania in 2011, where he threw for 1,526 yards and had 16 touchdowns as a senior ... Also played for St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 2009-10 when his father, UMass head coach Mark Whipple, was the offensive coordinator for the University of Miami ... His brother, Spencer, is currently the UMass tight ends coach.
