Tim Gelzinis joined the University of Massachusetts baseball staff as a volunteer assistant coach in August of 2024. Gelzinis comes to Amherst after two seasons as an assistant coach at Rogers Williams.
While at Roger Williams, Gelzinis oversaw the hitters, outfielders and baserunners. He coached eight All-Conference players, including Jack Morin, who was named to the All-Region Team in 2024. During the 2024 season, RWU was ranked for 23rd in the country for several weeks, and defeated Endicott, the No. 1-nationally ranked Division III team, for the first time in program history. In the 2023 year, Gelzinis helped the Hawks to the single season program record for stolen bases (120).
Prior to joining the Hawks, Gelzinis was the associate head baseball coach at Massasoit Community College for the 2022 season. He helped lead the Warriors to the No. 2 seed in the NJCAA Region 21. While with Massasoit, Gelzinis primarily focused on hitting and infielders, aided the Warriors to a .307 team batting average and coaching the program's first All-American since 2016.
During the summer of 2022, Gelzinis served as an assistant coach with the Niagara Power in the Perfect Game Collegiate League, where he worked with the outfielders and hitters.
Gelzinis graduated with a bachelor's degree in sport management from Elms College in 2017. He was a four-year starter for the baseball team at Elms, where Gelzinis helped the Blazers to their best season in program history when they finished the 2017 year with a 32-13 overall record. Gelzinis was a three-time All-Conference player and earned a spot on the 2017 NECC All-Tournament Team. He also ranks in the top 10 in numerous offensive categories for the Blazers.
