UMass Leads A-10 Commissioner's Cup Standings after Fall Season

Nov. 16, 2000

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts sits atop the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Cup standings through the completion of the fall sports season.

UMass earned 46.0 points during the fall season, ten points better than second place finishers Dayton and Rhode Island. Massachusetts relied on a strong showing from its women's programs, grabbing 28.5 of its points on that side of the ledger. The Minutewomen finished first in field hockey, and the Minutemen tied for first in men's soccer, catapulting UMass into the lead.

The winter season will crown seven Atlantic 10 champions: men's and women's basketball, women's gymnastics, men's and women's indoor track, and men's and women's swimming and diving.

Commissioner's Cup points are awarded in descending order of finish, equal to the number of teams participating in each sport. Regular season standings are used in sports which play a round robin schedule: baseball, men's and women's basketball, field hockey, women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, softball, and women's volleyball.
