ICE HOCKEY: Minutemen seek more success on Maine ice
Daily Hampshire Gazette / By Matt Vautour
Most people's stories about their trips to Orono, Maine, are some combination of the long ride, cold weather, and nothing-to-do tales. For the University of Massachusetts hockey program, the northern New England town is the site of its finest hour. Men's Basketball: Minutemen's season slipping away
Daily Hampshire Gazette / By Matt Vautour
AMHERST, Mass. - At the beginning of last week, the University of Massachusetts men's basketball team had an opportunity. Coming off a disappointing nonconference season where the Minutemen were surprisingly under .500 at 5-6, UMass was set to open conference play with four games that were all winnable. A good run in those games might have been the spark the Minutemen needed to bring things together. A National Invitation Tournament berth still seemed like a potentially attainable goal. . .

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Vols to test UMass
Springfield Republican / By Ron Chimelis
AMHERST, Mass. - Tonight's game against Tennessee should provide a better measure of where the University of Massachusetts men's basketball team stands. The Volunteers are 7-1, but they are certainly not the equal of Connecticut, the nation's No. 1-ranked team which trounced UMass 91-67 Tuesday. And while Tennessee is one of the better teams the Minutemen will face, they certainly didn't volunteer for a tough non-conference schedule, which makes tonight's 5:30 game at the Mullins Center an interesting test for both teams. . .
