Mac Haight couldn't have ever pictured his first two collegiate starts coming against national power Boston College.
But Haight -- a walk-on freshman goalie who entered the season listed third on the University of Massachusetts hockey depth chart -- quickly found himself saving shots from the likes of Johnny Gaudreau in a pivotal Hockey East series.
It certainly wasn't an enviable situation. Steve Mastalerz, who saved 92.5 percent of shots faced, has missed the last three games with an undisclosed injury. Alex Wakaluk, the original backup to Mastalerz, allowed five goals on 10 shots against New Hampshire in a 9-0 loss.
UMass (3-7-2, 1-2-4 Hockey East) coach John Micheletto turned to Haight to steady his team between the pipes.
Haight made 57 saves in two games against the Eagles and allowed just four goals, helping the Minutemen pick up a conference point and establish consistency as it prepares for a weekend series with Vermont (3-5-1, 2-4).
