Women's Hoops Schedule Announcement Covered In The Republican

Over the weekend, Dick Baker led off his Local College Notebook with a piece on the UMass women's basketball team's schedule being released:

The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team scheduled opponents from all over the landscape of Division I in setting its 2011-12 slate.

The Minutewomen booked games with opponents from 12 different conferences, including the most exciting home event, Nov. 26 against Ole Miss. That will be the first time they have played an SEC team at home since 1998.

Nine of their opponents this season earned post-season berths in 2011.

UMass opens its season Sunday afternoon Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. against Boston University at the Mullins Center, and is home again Nov. 16 versus Central Connecticut before playing five of the next six on the road, starting with Miami (Ohio).

There are three home doubleheaders scheduled with the men's team, including both squads taking on St. Bonaventure Feb. 8.
