Massachusetts Baseball Announces 2026 Team Captains

Beverly and Powers named captains for the 2026 season.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts baseball co-head coaches Brandon Shileikis and Max Weir have announced that graduate student Jack Beverly and junior Callen Powers have been named captains for the 2026 season. The captains were selected by a vote of their teammates.
During the 2025 season, Beverly started in all 47 games played, totaling a .265 batting average and a .937 fielding percentage. The Framingham, Massachusetts, native, had 44 hits with 11 doubles and a team-leading eight home runs, 35 runs and 39 RBI in 166 at-bats. He tallied 79 total bases on the year and was walked 37 times, ranking fourth in the program for single-season walks. Beverly recorded a career-high three doubles vs. Boston College at Fenway Park (4/29), with three hits on the day, matching a career-best. He also batted in a career-high five runners in game two at Richmond (4/12), with three runs on two hits, including a double and a homer. He marked 14 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games on the year, while totaling a six-game hitting streak and a reached base streak of eight contests.
In the field, Beverly posted 95 putouts and 53 assists, while contributing to seven double plays.
Additionally, Beverly was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team and the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
"I'm incredibly excited about the opportunity to compete in a new conference and embrace the challenges that come with it," said Beverly. "Our group has been working hard, and we're eager to see that effort pay off when the season gets underway. We can't wait to get started and represent our program at a high level."
Powers started on the mound in all 14 of his appearances for UMass, completing the season with a 3-5 record and a team-leading 5.38 ERA. The Haddam Neck, Connecticut, native dealt 52 strikeouts in 72 innings pitched, and struck out a career-best seven at Navy (3/8), allowing only two runs on nine hits in six complete innings. He pitched his first complete game vs. George Mason (4/19), tossing all nine frames with one run on four hits, three walks and four strikeouts to receive the win. Powers picked up his first win of the year, allowing no runs, no hits, walking three and striking out three in five innings at Coppin State (3/1).
Powers was named the A-10 Player of the Week for his performance the week of April 21.
"I am extremely grateful for this opportunity, and I am excited to get to work this season," said Powers. "We have a special group this year and I am looking forward to getting started this spring."
