Women’s Swim & Dive Drop Dual Meet At UConn

The Minutewomen earned nine individual medals on the day.
STORRS, Conn. – The University of Massachusetts women's swimming and diving team fell to UConn on the road, 170-119, at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
Senior Lexi Alexen took fourth in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:08.12 to begin the individual events. Junior Beren Cakiroglu swam a time of 1:54.41 in the 200 freestyle to place fourth.
In the 100 backstroke, sophomore Maria Grishaeva earned fourth with a time of 58.19, while junior Lindsay Burbgae secured the bronze medal in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.88. Sophomore Hannah Schoenauer took fourth-place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.17
Sophomore Courtney Tedesco claimed the gold medal in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.91. Cakiroglu garnered the silver in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.36, before Grishaeva earned third-place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:08.47.
Burbage was fourth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.70, as Schoenauer also placed fourth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:10.52. Sophomore Karinne Everly sat atop the podium in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.06, followed by freshman Flora Klimesch in third with a time of 1:02.23.
The 200 individual medley saw a podium sweep for UMass, as Grishaeva grabbed the gold with a time of 2:11.62. Junior Diya Ackerman-Vallala earned the silver with a time of 2:12.36 and sophomore Kendall Gilbert took the bronze with a time of 2:20.27.
During the relay events, the team of Grishaeva, freshman Kate Baranova, Everly and Tedesco completed the 200 medley relay in second with a time of 1:46.36.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Tedesco, Schoenauer, Everly and Cakiroglu swam into first with a combined time of 3:31.78. The team of junior Olga Stoura, Baranova, Burbage and Ackerman-Vallala took second in the event with a time of 3:40.69, while the team consisting of Alexen, senior Molly Nelson, junior Ece Yildirim and junior Sophie Porter placed third with a time of 4:16.83.
On The Boards
Sophomores Khrystyna Yaremyn and Danielle Guerin placed second and third, respectively, in the three-meter dive. Yaremyn placed with a six-dive total of 274.28, while Guerin earned a score of 263.18 in the event.
In the one-meter dive, the Minutewomen swept the podium with Guerin (269.40) in first, senior Shreeya Sinha (255.45) in second and Yaremyn (253.58) in third. Senior Salem Howes totaled a 228.15 to take fourth in the event, while sophomore Sahana Narayanan was fifth with a score of 195.00.

Both the men's and women's swim team then prepare for the Tate Ramsden Invitational, hosted by Dartmouth, on Friday, January 16 through Saturday, January 17, in Hanover, New Hampshire. Friday's events begin at 5 p.m., while Saturday's event start at 10 a.m. and complete at 3 p.m.
