AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts cross country juniors Collin Catherwood and Rylee Shunney have been named MAC Cross Country Runners of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Catherwood led the pack taking first overall in 18:18.66, 22 seconds ahead of his next closest competitor on the tough and hilly 6K course at the Ken O'Brien Minuteman Invitational this past Saturday. The junior led the race wire to wire and pushed the whole way.

Shunney led UMass for the first time in her career, completing the 4K course in 13:28.21, over 30 seconds ahead of second to take first in the field of 36 competitors at the Ken O'Brien Minuteman Invitational this past weekend and a 1:21 improvement on her 2024 time from the same meet. The Minutewomen captured nine of the top-11 spots to collect a team victory. The East Greenwich, R.I. native set a new 4K course record, breaking the former record of 13:56 set in 2024 by Brooke Morabito from CCSU who later that season, individually qualified for the NCAA National XC Championship.
