Minutemen Take 3-1 Kennedy Cup Win Over Riverhawks

LOWELL, Mass. -- Massachusetts (4-1-1) fought its way back into the win column on Wednesday night, claiming a 3-1 victory over UMass Lowell (3-2-1) in the latest edition of Kennedy Cup action.
Three Minutemen found net on the night featuring scores from Ivan Vrh, Aidan Kelly, and Thomas Wadas. Matt Cence also tallied his second assist of the season. Alex Geczy saved three shots over a full 90 minutes of action in net.

- UMass earned the first corner in the game at 7:14, however were unable to get a scoring attempt off as a foul in the box gave the Riverhawks possession.
- Matt Cence fired the first shot for the Minutemen as the attempt missed just right of the goal.
- Alex Geczy made his first save of the game in the 14th minute, stopping the scoring chance from Oliver Holmstrom.
- Ivan Vrh broke the ice for Massachusetts in the 16th minute, following a shot off the left post to secure the 1-0 lead.
- Lowell answered shortly after, as Linus Musielak found net to even the score at 1-1.
- A top-shelf attempt by Magnús Ingi Halldórsson forced Jorge Ortega to make his second save of the half, however the first 45 ended with a 1-1 stalemate.
- It wouldn't take Massachusetts long to find its eventual game-winner, as back-to-back corners led to an Aidan Kelly header in the 58th minutes thanks to the service from Cence.
- Geczy kept the Minutemen in front, saving a shot on goal in the 61st minute by Matteo Costa.
- Matt Fordham almost doubled the UMass lead, as an attempt to the bottom right of the net was stopped by Ortega.
- Thomas Wadas would put the game on ice in the 81st minute, netting a setup from Halldórsson to make it a 3-1 lead.
