AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has added 5-10, 187-pound defenseman Coleson Hanrahan to its roster for the 2025-26 season, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Wednesday. The Longmeadow, Mass., native is the second member of the Minutemen's class of 2029, joining fellow Massachusetts native, forward Jack Galanek.

"Coleson is a Western Mass. kid who grew up down the road from our campus," said Carvel. "He is a rugged hard-nosed defenseman who puts his body on the line every night for his teammates. He is a proven leader and will have a tremendous impact on our team on and off the ice. He has had success in the USHL on the ice and as a captain and we look forward to him bringing that experience back home to UMass."

Hanrahan spent the past two seasons playing the United States Hockey League (USHL) for the Youngstown Phantoms and appeared in 93 games, posting 35 points on nine goals and 26 assists with a +19 rating. After putting up 27 points (7g, 20a) in 63 games in 2024-25, he was named the USHL Curt Hammer Award winner, which "recognizes the USHL player who distinguishes himself both on and off the ice by demonstrating outstanding performance skills, pride, and determination".

Prior to his time in the USHL, Hanrahan played for the P.A.L. Junior Islanders where he was an NCDC Champion in 2022-23. He was also a member of the Springfield Jr. Pics and was a USPHL 16U American Champion.
