Massachusetts Hockey Adds Nycz To Its Defensive Corps

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey will welcome 6-2, 201-pound defenseman Landon Nycz its roster for the upcoming season, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Monday. Nycz, who will be eligible for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, is the seventh member of the Minutemen's class of 2029, joining forwards joining forwards Jack Galanek, Justin Kerr, Lukas Klecka, A.J. Lacroix, Vaclav Nestrasil and defenseman Coleson Hanrahan.
"Landon is a big left shot defenseman that possesses elite skating ability and a great first pass" said Carvel. "He has spent the last two seasons in the USHL and will come to UMass as a 17-year-old. Landon is eligible and expected to be drafted in the 2026 NHL Draft."
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Nycz spent the past two seasons playing for the Waterloo Black Hawks and the Sioux City Musketeers, seeing action in 112 USHL games and recording 41 points on nine goals and 32 assists. This past season in Sioux City, he logged 10 points (3g, 7a) in 25 games.
Nycz played 2022-23 with the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies at the 15U level. He also was a member of Compuware 14U AAA and Victory Honda 13U AAA.
