#2 Tennis Takes On #7 Davidson In A-10 Quarterfinals

The Minutewomen begin tournament action with the Wildcats on Friday, April 25, at 11:30 a.m.
AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 2 University of Massachusetts tennis team begins Atlantic 10 Championship competition on Friday, April 25, against No. 7 Davidson in Orlando, Florida. First serve is set for 11:30 a.m. at the USTA National Campus.
The Minutewomen earned the No. 2 seed for the ninth time in program history and the second time under head coach Juancarlos Nunez. As the No. 2 seed, UMass received a bye, along with the No. 1-seeded Fordham and No. 3-seeded Richmond.
The match will be streamed via live court cams and live scoring will be available.
Last Time Out
Massachusetts claimed a 4-2 victory on the road over Rhode Island last Saturday to pick up its fourth consecutive A-10 Conference win, finishing the regular season unblemished, 4-0, in the league.
The Minutewomen claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Duo Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye downed their URI opponents, 7-5, at court No. 2, before partners Martina Pavissich and Trinity Calinescu defeated the Rams, 7-5.
UMass continued momentum in singles action, picking up three more points. Belle Jonglertrakul had a 6-2, 6-1 win at court No. 3, while Calinescu claimed a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 6 singles. Tye claimed the match point in a three-set victory at No. 4, taking down her opponent, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Regular Season Record Reports
Massachusetts concluded the regular season with an 11-6 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in the A-10 Conference. UMass completed its home schedule with a 7-2 record and earned four straight wins to finish out the season. Two of the four consecutive triumphs came over league opponents.
Weekly Honors
Faessler collected the first Atlantic 10 weekly award of the year for the Minutewomen on February 4. The junior tabbed the A-10 Player of the Week accolade, which marked the first weekly honor of her career. On the week, Faessler went 2-0 in singles competition and 1-0 in doubles play.
