Trio Named UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

Rahsool Diggins of men’s basketball, Megan Olbrys of women’s basketball and Sammy Quigg of men’s swimming and diving will be recognized on Wednesday at the UMass Sports Luncheon.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's basketball senior Rahsool Diggins, Megan Olbrys women's basketball and Sammy Quigg of men's swimming and diving tabbed the UMassFive Student-Athletes of the Week honor, as announced on Tuesday. The duo will be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon this Wednesday, February 5, at 12 p.m. in the Berkshire Room at the Berkshire Dining Commons.
 
Speakers at this week's luncheon will be Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Greg Cannella and Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field David Jackson. Cost to attend is $16.25 ($14.63 for UMass Alumni).


Diggins continued to be an offensive force averaging 29.5 points and 4.0 rebounds on 53.8% shooting over two games. Diggins powered the Minutemen to a 62-53 win over Duquesne, scoring 32 points while shooting 11-of-18 from the field. The senior scored 15 of Massachusetts' final 19 points against the Dukes, going a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and 3-of-3 from three-point range over the final six minutes of the game. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native has now tallied his third game with 30-plus points this season and 11th straight in double digits.


Olbrys led Massachusetts with 17 points and 8 rebounds on the day, going 5-9 from the field and 7-10 from the free throw line in a 60-50 win over La Salle
Recorded her sixth double-double of the season in a 71-54 win over GW, tallying 16 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 1 steal. Olbrys went a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line to lead an 86.7% shooting night from the charity stripe for UMass.
 
Quigg and the Minutemen won 177.5-119.5 over Fordham on Saturday afternoon, as Quigg collected four gold medals total on the day. Quigg placed first in three individual events, starting with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.63. He also swam a time of 20.76 in the 50 freestyle to touch the wall first, while placing first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.23. During the relay events, Quigg anchored the 400 freestyle relay team to first with a combined time of 3:06.25.
